On-Campus Doctor of Audiology Program - F.A.Q.
Do I have to have a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing to apply to the Au.D. program?
No, the program is designed to take in students from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds.
How many applicants do you usually have and how many do you usually accept?
The number of applications has been growing from year to year. The most recent figure was 104 applications for the Fall of 2001. We try to accept enough students to form a class of 10 to 12. This has meant accepting approximately 15 students.
What is a good GRE score?
Should I retake it if my score is ####?
While this is a fairly common question, it is a tough one to answer. The
answer (and your decision to retake the GRE or not) is an individual one.
The admissions committee takes into consideration only the highest combined
Verbal and Quantitative score from a particular date, so taking the test
over and actually getting a lower overall score cannot hurt you.
The Graduate School has not established a minimum standard for the combined
GRE score for applicants. Our applicants tend to average approximately 1080
over the past few years, and those accepted to the program average even
higher (1140). But these average values do not represent the whole range
of scores obtained by our applicants and students. An applicant's GRE score
is only one measure used in the context of a holistic credential review
process by the admissions committee. All applications are reviewed by each
member of the admissions committee, and all are considered for admission.
What kinds of scholarships and assistantships are available to
Au.D. students at UF?
The most common form of support offered to students in our program is a
graduate teaching assistantship. This is typically a 1/4-time (10 hours
per week), 9-month position. The assistantship carries a small stipend and
a tuition waiver for 9 credit hours each Fall and Spring. There are some
1/3 time, 12-month assistantships available also. These carry an additional
tuition waiver for the summer. Some research assistantships are also awarded
to our Au.D. students.
